Our Courses

The Build Up programme has been organised into three ‘strands’. Strand 1 incorporates networking and career assessment workshops. In addition to the regular Career Focus workshops, we will be running additional “ad hoc” networking sessions and workshops.

Strand 2 offers a variety of short courses which focus on a range of business and sector-specific skills. Strand 3 is a selection of collaborative ‘live’ projects. These projects place particular emphasis on interdisciplinary working, sustainability, low carbon and ‘green’ development, and community engagement.

You can book onto one Strand 1 ‘Career Focus’ Workshop plus a maximum of three courses from the rest of the programme. This means that you can participate in three Strand 2 short courses OR one Strand 3 project, and two Strand 2 short courses. Please note that you can only participate in one of the Strand 3 projects.

Strand 1 - Career Focus

Recommended as an introduction to the Build Up programme, the Career Focus workshops offer participants the opportunity to:

  • build networks with other professionals (virtual and physical)
  • identify individual development needs and career path options
  • create individual professional development plans
  • access a range of information and learning/development resources
We will continue to add more workshops and networking sessions over the duration of the programme.

Strand 2 - Developing Talent

The Developing Talent short courses offer the participants the opportunity to enhance their skills within a multi-disciplinary context. The courses cover a range of themes:

  • Climate change
  • Community empowerment and planning
  • Design skills
  • Negotiation and business relationship building
  • Economic skills in a changing market
  • Project management
  • Promoting your business through IT
We will continue to update our courses and add additional dates over the duration of the programme.

Strand 3 - Innovative Collaboration

Drawing on the full range of built environment disciplines, the Innovative Collaboration strand offers participants a unique opportunity to work alongside other built environment professionals to undertake project-based work, involving local authorities and not-for-profit organisations. These projects offer participants the opportunity to:

  • Develop inter-professional working techniques
  • Identify new ways of looking at urban issues
  • Develop real solutions to real built environment issues across London
  • Focus on the development of green skills and outline different approaches to low carbon and sustainable community issues
We will continue to add more projects over the duration of the programme.
